My recollections of sports are a tribute to nostalgia, as my entire family were active in one sport or another. My maternal grandfather still remembered as the Baseball Hero for both donating land for a ballfield that he and community members groomed and prepared for all games. Baseball was a family treasure, so much so that I had dreams of being a baseball empire! I still love baseball! My Aunts and Uncles were all players and great fans. Hockey was another family tradition both on the river ice and on the screen. Before the Dams, fishing was so lucrative as a livelihood and not necessarily a sport, however, as Dams diminished our source of food, fishing became “sport”. There are obviously new “sports” that are not traditional but have been adopted as entertainment and a sport. For this lesson, you will learn vocabulary that describes a variety of sports and the equipment that relates to each sport. I must add that translation has been a challenge and therefore want to give credit to speakers who still play these new sports for assisting in the translations.
